Webinar, “Challenging the Challenges,” at IIT Madras

In line with the Covid-mandated transition from in-person programs to online presentations, Darshan Education Foundation hosted a webinar at IIT Madras this past August: “Challenging the Challenges.” In a time when the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in unprecedented situations, such as lockdowns and the disruption of normal lives by restricting human beings in limited spaces, taking care of mental health and emotional wellbeing are of vital importance. The webinar focused on managing stress and the role of meditation in attaining calmness and clarity. The introduction to the program included a brief description of the role played by Darshan Education Foundation in the holistic development of students. Founded in 1995 by world renowned spiritual Master Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, a former student of IIT Madras, students are trained to be citizens of a global community whose prosperity and well-being depend on harmony and co-operation. The webinar presenter, Ms Sharma, was able to interact with participants through a series of questions and answers, delivering a content-rich lecture merging technical details and science. Students learned how meditation can make a positive difference in their life and help them deal with the stress and challenges of life. Participants included engineering students, faculty, administrative staff, and alumni. Students who attended were awarded participatory certificates. Post-class feedback was uniformly positive.

Art Integration Activities in Accountancy and Business Studies

Art Integration projects incorporated by CBSE were taken up in XI grade at Darshan Academy Delhi. The students of XI grade, Commerce section integrated art work in Accountancy and Business Studies in the form of puzzles, posters and rangoli.

Healthy Living through Meditation

Healthy Living through Meditation All the Darshan Academy teachers and administrators from around India, participated in an online talk on 28 July 2020. The topic of the talk was "Healthy Living through Meditation." The session was very beneficial for finding calm during the stress caused by the pandemic. Participants meditated together during the online event and learned the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through meditation. The event was organised by Darshan Education Foundation.

Darshan Academies – A Pace Setter

If the current crisis Covid-19 teaches us anything, it is that there is a need across all educational sectors to plan for sustainable, quality, and flexible learning options. When we think about flexible learning, we inevitably think about educational technologies. Darshan Academies are always known for setting a benchmark for themselves. The teachers of Darshan Academies are using the following educational technology tools to mitigate the impact of lockdown i.e. academic loss to students from Nursery to class XII in the new academic session 2020-21: 1. WhatsApp • Sharing of lessons in the form of text, video and audio file with the students • Assignments being given at the end of each lesson, and students answering to those assignments through text and audio files • Teacher students interactions, Feedbacks, Doubt clearing. 2. Use of other free educational technology tools like Zoom App, Flow Book etc. by teachers where wi-fi is available at both ends i.e. teachers and students. 3. YouTube Keeping the students of Darshan Academies engaged in self-learning, chapter wise videos as well as audios of classes X and XII are being uploaded on YouTube, which would be followed by uploading of videos as well as audios of other classes as well. The following educational portals are also being used by teachers: • Diksha portal of the government-www.diksha.gov.in where students from classes VI to XII can get the following information about the main subjects: - Explanation of content through PPTs and Videos - Question Bank - Experiential content - Lesson Plan - Focus spot - Curiosity questions - Learning outcomes • SWYAMPRABHA – a group of 32 DTH channels devoted to telecasting of high quality educational programme for secondary education (classes IX to XII) apart from higher education on 24x7 basis

Mother’s Recipe Competition, Darshan Academy, Ludhiana

A Mother’s Recipe competition was organized for classes Nursery to II on February 24, 2020 at Darshan Academy, Ludhiana. The aim of this competition was to make students and parents aware of nutritious, vegetarian food. The students' dishes were judged by Ms. Neeru who was delighted to see the efforts made by their mothers. She poised questions to students that were related to their dishes and judged them on their knowledge of the dish. The competition ended with scrumptious delights.

Baby Show, Jagdishpura Kaithal

Darshan Academy, Jagdishpura Kaithal organised a baby show on February 23, 2020 for the 2 to 5 year olds which consisted of fancy dress, rhyme recitations and colouring competitions. The tiny-tots entertained everyone with their talent and cute performances.

Dance Club Community Outreach, Delhi

Kirpal Week of Loving Kindness is celebrated by doing community service. Twenty Darshan Academy, Delhi dance club students along with two teachers, visited Kamala Bakshi Vanprastha Ashram in Rohini, to show gratitude and respect towards the elderly people living there. Children distributed woolen clothes, eatables and juices and spent quality time with them by interacting and listening to their stories. The elderly shared openly their experiences, problems and their interests. Students also performed dances and sang many songs and bhajans. It was an overwhelming experience for everyone. One elderly resident appreciated and thanked everyone for expressing their love and concern. Others were also very happy and thanked the school for taking such great initiatives in imbibing values in teachers and students.

Darshan Academy Scholarship Felicitation Ceremony Kirpal Bagh, 9 February, 2020

Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, Founder Chairman of Darshan Education Foundation, presided over a felicitation ceremony to award scholarships to the students of Darshan Academy, Delhi who had excelled in the areas of study, sports and other co-curricular activities in the year 2019-20. The ceremony took part on the grounds of Kirpal Bagh, Delhi on 9 February, 2020. It commenced with a report showcasing the major achievements of Darshan Academy, Delhi, one highlight being the 100% pass record since its inception and five students achieving merit certificates for ranking among the top 0.1 % Central Board of Secondary Examination results, out of more than one million students last year. During the silver jubilee year Darshan Academies have initiated a community project to offer free after school classes to underprivileged children. This has been a successful and highly appreciated venture. The event honoured Payal Vohra, named the Golden girl of Darshan Academy Delhi. She was felicitated by Maharaj Ji and Mata Rita Ji for her recent gold medal in the Khelo India Youth Games 2020. A recording of her 400m race was played on the big screens which was appreciated by all with loud cheers and thunderous applause. This is her 4th successive gold medal. Payal is currently the fastest runner in her age group and category in India. Darshan Academy students regularly win prizes in various sports, including chess, rope skipping, basketball and table tennis. 89 meritorious students received scholarships for excellence in various fields. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj and Mata Rita Ji awarded the scholarship cheques, appreciation letters and prashad to the students. The various scholarships are: Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj Scholarship for excellence in academics, Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj Scholarship for all round excellence, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj Scholarship for excelling in Class X & XII and Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj Sports Scholarship for students who show a brilliant performance in Sports. In his ensuing address to the students, Maharaj Ji congratulated all the students, teachers and staff on their hard work and achievements. Expressing his joy to see Darshan Academy doing so well, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, emphasized how a spiritual curriculum helps us achieve our goals in life. When we focus on our spiritual growth by inverting our attention daily, we can concentrate better and begin to excel in all aspects of life. After the ceremony, Maharaj Ji met with the students and staff of grade XII from Darshan Academy Delhi, Meerut, Ludhiana and Hisar who were present to seek the blessings of the spiritual Master for the upcoming grade twelve exams. The uplifting presence of Maharaj Ji made the wonderful ceremony an unforgettable day to treasure.

REPORT ON REPUBLIC DAY AND VOTER’S DAY CELEBRATION

ARSHAN ACADEMY, Delhi celebrated Republic Day and Voter’s Day. The program started with a talk by Ms Amrit Kaur on benefits of meditating together followed by meditation. Being the Silver Jubilee Year, the entire school sits on mediation to mediate together on 25th of every month.Mr.Salekh Chand – Director of NIHFW (National Documentation Centre of National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi) graced the occasion as Chief Guest. A beautiful cultural program was presented by the students after the hoisting of National Flag. Malshri of grade IV gave a special KATHAK Performance and mesmerised everyone. The other performances on patriotic songs and dances were appreciated by all.Mr. Salekh Chand presented Mementoes and prizes to the winners who took part in various activities organised by Reading club of the school. Mr.Chand appreciated the school and the librarian for organising such activities amongst students and encouraging the reading habits in school. He also presented a memento to school Principal Mr.A.David and the librarian Ms.Mamta Amarpuri for their contribution and developing such habits in students.Finally OATH ‘THE RIGHT TO VOTE’ was taken by all in honour of the Election Day.
